La La With Love sells recycled, reclaimed and sustainable yarns and fibre. They are naturally ethical, hand crafted, eco-friendly and fairly traded and if that wasn't enough to spark your interest, they're also beautiful.

When we saw the hank of Banana Fibre yarn we were completely blown away by its multi jeweled beauty. The yarn is very similar to silk and as such is lovely and soft, with a gorgeous lustre to it.

The Kaleidoscope Banana Fibre is described as aran weight, but it's a very heavy weight yarn and as such we wouldn't recommend it for all of your knitting. Knitted on a 5mm needle it creates a lovely dense fabric that would be ok for something like a bag, or something more structured like a jacket or a waistcoat. If you were to make something like this it would be better to make it in pieces and seam, rather than in one piece as the seams would give your garment strength.

If you worked the yarn at a much looser gauge on bigger needles or a larger crochet hook, you would be able to make the most beautiful scarves and shawls. A pretty stitch pattern would get lost under the halo of gem-like fibres that poke out from the yarn, so stick to plain stitches.

The Banana Fibre yarn would really come into its own if used in other crafts too like weaving, jewellery making and mixed media. We're all about macrame at the moment and think it would look fab used in this craft.

You might spot the La La With Love stall if you're attending Fibre East at the end of July or Yarndale in September but in the meantime, to order or find out more about this and the other yarns available, visit the La La With Love Website
